Program Overview

In January of 2018, the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) started the ATTEND Mediation Program as a diversion program to address the barriers parents faced in sending their children to school daily and on time. ATTEND started as a collaboration between the Office of the Attorney General (OAG), District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS), Local Education Agency (LEA) and District of Columbia Superior Court (DCSC) to address truancy for children ages 5 to 12 years old, through parent engagement, dialogue, and referrals to community-based services.

Services Offered

Trained and specialized mediators assists parents and the school in reaching a signed agreement in a neutral setting
Mediators work with school intervention teams to refer families to the Mayor's Services Liaison Office (MSLO) located at DC Superior Court to provide direct linkage to agency services such as housing, employment, mental health, and child-care.
Weekly mediations led by the Office of the Ombudsman for Public Education (OPE) at Turner Elementary School
Monthly parent empowerment workshops partnering with community-based services and other District of Columbia agencies to address topics of interest to the parents. Sessions include: employment and college readiness, Urban Life Coaching, OAG Services (Domestic Violence, Protection Orders, Child Support Services, Housing and Tenant Rights), and expungements

Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.
